 Phonics and Early Reading

We feel passionately that developing a love of reading from an early age will benefit our children hugely: personally, socially and educationally. Therefore, reading is at the heart of everything we do. Through the use of carefully chosen texts, we ensure our children have access to literature that will spark their passion and develop a love of English. These texts are linked to our topics to ensure that it is meaningful and exciting. We invest in high quality texts that will meet the needs of all learners. 

In EYFS and Key Stage One we use Little Wandle to teach our phonics. The children are provided with a wide range of texts and are taught effectively to decode and blend. 

Reading Across the curriculum

Our English curriculum is designed so that the children are exposed to a wide range of text and genres. We have worked hard to ensure that they exposed to authors and stories from different cultures and have tried to ensure that we link these to their learning in other subjects. Our knowledge organisers provide the children with recommend reads -stories and books which will provide them further information relating to the curriculum.
